Margrete Auken

MEP, Denmark, Greens/EFA

Margrete Auken is a Danish Member of the European Parliament from the Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF – Socialist People’s Party), part of the Greens/ European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) group in the European Parliament. She was first elected as an MEP in 2004.

She currently sits as a full member on the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and the Committee on Petitions (PETI). Auken has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation since 2004 and a member of its General Assembly since 1982. Before joining Parliament, Auken was a member of the Folketing (the Danish National Parliament) from 1973 to 1977 and from 1979 to 2004. From 1991 to 1995, Auken was a member of the Ministry of Justice’s Animal Experimentation Board. She was a member of the Nordic Council from 1982 to 1990 and a member of the Nordic Council’s Presidium from 1986 to 1989. 

Auken became a Parish Priest at Frederiksberg Church in 1972, having graduated with a degree in Theology from Copenhagen University in 1971. She was born in 1945, in Århus, Denmark.
